Summer Writing Workshop 2024

Applications for our signature Writing Workshop are now open.

About Us & Our Writing Workshop

Somos Escritoras is a Writing Workshop for Latina girls (grades 6-8) to share and perform stories from their lived experiences using art, theater, and writing as a tool for self-reflection and self-examination.

Our goal of Somos Escritoras is to support Latina girls to develop their writing while learning new tools to speak their truths, define themselves, and amplify their voices within a supportive community of Latina girls and women.

Workshop participants learn about BIPOC history, artists, and authors through videos, presentations, and texts (e.g., poetry, short stories, essays) that examine topics related to gender, culture, language, family, and identity. The workshop includes games, art, and drawing as tools for writing and presentations from guest authors, poets, artists, etc.

Our workshops are facilitated in English and Spanish by a team of Latina writing mentors, classroom teachers, college students, and community artists and authors.
