About the Author

Elyse Castillo, High school senior, 2nd Year College Student & Somos Escritora Alumna

Elyse M’shell Castillo is a Realism artist known for her evocative portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. She was born in Houston, Texas, and has since then moved to various cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Austin, and currently Brownsville, Texas. Her work aims to evoke a sense of beauty, captivating oil paintings on various surfaces, including canvases, wood, and paper. She has showcased her paintings in school art galleries, as well as being published in Boundless 2022. Passionate about dance and travel, Elyse integrates these interests into her art and engages with her audience through social media. She is committed to growing her art business and continuing her creative journey.


About the Blog Series

The #LatinaLuminaries Blog Series by Somos Escritoras. The series was created to illuminate the wisdom, experiences, voices, and truths of Latina women and girls and the broader Latinx community.
