Somos Escritoras, a creative space for Latinx girls in grades 6-8, is participating in the Texas Book Festival!
Latina girls in grades 6-8 are invited to participate in a Somos Escritoras book club. We will read Tumble by Celia Pérez and attend the Real Reads Program at Texas Book Festival, where we will meet the book’s author and participate in a workshop with her!
The Real Reads Program “connects teenage students with authors that resonate specifically with them. Every participating student [will] receive a copy of the author’s book, engage in reading and writing through [a] peer-based book study, and connect with the author through an in-person session.”
At our book club meetings, we will discuss the book, create art, and prepare for our discussion and workshop with Celia Pérez.
Here are important details to consider before agreeing to participate in the program:
5 Book Club Meetings
Meeting #1: Sunday, October 2, 2022 – 4:00-5:30 p.m.
At our first Book Club meeting will have a 15-minute parent meeting.
Meeting #2: Sunday, October 9, 2022 – 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Meeting #3: Sunday, October 16, 2022- 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Meeting #4: Sunday, October 23, 2022 – 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Meeting #5: Saturday, November 5, 2022 – 12:00-2:30 p.m.
We will be in-person at a Real Reads w/ Author Celia Perez at the Texas Book Festival in downtown Austin – Location TBA.
If you participate, you will receive a FREE copy of TUMBLE and meet author Celia Pérez during Real Reads at the Texas Book Festival!
All book club meetings will be online (via zoom).
The Real Reads Event will take place in-person at the Texas Book Festival in downtown Austin on Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 12:00-2:30 p.m.
Attendance at all book club meetings are mandatory.
You must have permission from a parent to participate.
