In Elizabeth Acevedo’s, The Poet X, Xiomara, the young protagonist, processes her life, feels brave, and finds freedom in and through writing poetry. Our 2022 Somos Escritoras workshop theme is “Becoming Braver Together,” invites Latina girls (entering grades 6-8) to discover the freeing power of writing and creating art, storytelling, poetry, personal narratives, y más from their perspectives and lived histories. This summer, we will step into our power as escritoras and bravely write our lives & amplify our voices.
Our summer 2022 taller will be hosted June 6-17, 2022, from 9-12 p.m. (CST), and **tentatively will include a variety of remote experiences, with the possibility of some in-person sessions. Throughout our two-week summer taller we will meet as a group, learn from guest artists and writers, create art and personal writing from our lives, and develop our voices as escritoras.
Somos Escritoras is FREE and designed for Latina girls entering 6th, 7thand 8thgrade.

**Since Summer 2020, Somos Escritoras has offered remote workshops for our escritoras. For the health and safety of our escritoras, writing mentors, and comunidad, we continue to monitor changes within the Covid-19 pandemic and follow the recommendations of local and national health officials.
