On Thursday we welcome 30 young chicas to our first virtual Somos Escritoras summer workshop.
We will join in comunidad with girls from Washington, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Iowa, Illinois and Washington D.C.
We are grateful for all the educators, coaches, mamas, tias, sisters, fathers–that shared Somos Escritoras with the young girls in their lives. We see you–and thank you for lifting up our chicas.
When we come together, we will honor our voices, our experiences and one another.
We will say the names of our elders, our ancestors and draw upon their lessons and the important foundation they have built for us–so that we can do this work.
We will remember our connections to all living creatures & explore the legacy we want to leave for future generations.
We will break silences. We will bring our language into action – as our foremothers, Gloria Anzaldúa, Audre Lorde, Cherrie Moraga, Patricia Hill Collins, and so many others have taught us with their writings, their teachings and advocacy.
We will celebrate our beauty, recognize our strength and continue to nurture our many resources- to build alongside one another.
